Our goal is to ensure that when your child comes in for our eye care in Napa, that his or her experience is pleasant, and even fun. At The Eye Works Optometry, pediatric eye exams are nothing to fear, though we do understand that any doctor visit may spark resistance in kids. Our office environment is designed to be comfortable and welcoming. And our staff is patient and friendly. Good habits and positive feelings about eye wellness formed early will last a lifetime.
With the exception of some mild stinging from the eye drops used to dilate her or his eyes, there is no pain involved in our pediatric eye exams. Your child’s visual acuity will be screened, and in addition, testing will be done for common eye diseases and conditions, which include those that are applicable to all ages, and those that are specific to children. Visual testing includes reading from an eye chart that has letters and pictures. If your child is not yet of reading age, though, the tumbling E game will be used. A series of E’s are presented, and your child will say in which direction each is pointing. It’s both enjoyable and effective. Cataracts and glaucoma are more likely to occur later in life, but are not unheard of in children. And because these diseases don’t include any obvious symptoms until they have become advanced, our eye care in Napa is dedicated to making any discoveries of their presence early, when the odds of successful treatment are their highest. Lazy eye (amblyopia), crossed eyes (strabismus), and drooping eyelid are some of the typical childhood conditions that will be tested for. None of them are dangerous, but can become permanent if they are not addressed in a timely manner.
Schedule a time to bring your child in for our eye care in Napa. Pediatric eye exams are an essential component of overall health and well-being for both kids and adults.
